Saturday, February 16 at 10 am-2 pm, Love Bank Park, 2853 Cherokee Join youth from our Cherokee Street neighborhoods as we take an effort to clean up the streets and alleys in our community and neighborhood. As a community effort, we are asking businesses, residents, and other members to help by donating $1 per pound collected. 100% of what is made goes directly back into our summer programming at Love Bank Park. Fire & Ice - Fundraiser for Gateway Art Support
Saturday, February 16 from 6 pm-2 am, Nexcore, 2631 Gravois
The purpose of Fire and Ice is to raise money for Gateway Art Support (GAS), a subsector of the Gateway Burners which provides art grants and funding for the annual Gateway Burn, as well as funding for Arch Reactor's upcoming projects, classes, and innovations. This unusual event is a collaboration of Burner culture and creative technical artistry that promises to be an exciting and welcome reprieve from the frigid Midwest winter. Volunteer basketball referees needed! We are looking for some volunteer referees for our youth basketball league! Since our participants are young and the league is new, our rules a little more relaxed, making this a good opportunity for students or those new to refereeing. We are looking for referee help from 6-8pm on the following dates: 2/21, 2/28, and 3/7. You can choose to volunteer for the whole two hours or just part of the time! 2nd Annual Chili Cook Off
Friday, February 22 at 7-10 pm, Higher Heights Deliverance Church, 2127 California
Contestants will be able to throw their hats in the ring to see who has the best Chili in 2019. Judges will be able to sample small portions of the chili while filling out a scoring sheet which they will use to decide which Chili they liked the best. After all Chili has been Sampled Judges can cast their vote for the winner. The Chili with the most votes will be crowned champion of the 2019 Chili Cook Off. The Registration for the Cook Off Competitors is also $8.00. All funds are being raised to go toward the Higher Heights Deliverance Church Anniversary. Face of Love: Common History of African Americans and Germans in Missouri
Saturday, February 23 from 2-5 pm, German Cultural Society, 3652 S. Jefferson
There is a rich and impressive history of German Abolitionists who fought for a color-blind democracy in Missouri. This history is largely unknown to many in the St. Louis region and is a good reason to celebrate the incredible intersection of shared American ideals between German immigrants and enslaved African Americans before and after the Civil War.
